Since 2014 most of our web design projects are “responsive”.
What does “responsive web design” mean?
It is much easier to explain responsive web design in pictures…
You are looking at a website from a computer (below)
Later on you look on your iPad (below)
then whilst out, you look at the same website on your mobile phone (below)
See the difference? The website changes enormously depending on the device you are using to look at it…
It even changes to a single column display on the iPhone to make it much easier to view:
There are many advantages using responsive web design but some of the main ones are:-
1) Speed – pages load quicker when optimised for other devices
2) Ease of use – if someone is really struggling to view a website from their mobile phone (or similar) and it is just too painful you will lose them as a website visitor.
On average, you have 8 seconds to “grab their attention” so if your site is taking an age to load or is too difficult to use they will be gone…
3) Great first impression – you only get one chance at this and if a visitor sees that you’ve made the effort to have a responsive website then the chances are you will take the same extra care and attention in anything that you do…
