SEO Tips 2014
Some basic SEO tips that you can do to your site immediately to help improve the SEO and Google rankings for your website:-
1) Keyword research
Take your time on this area. Go and grab a coffee and use the Google tool and let Google do the work!!!
Use the Google adwords keywords tool >>> https://adwords.google.com/ko/KeywordPlanner
(you need to have a Google account (free) first to use this tool now)
Do you take the time to study which search phrases people are actually using right now?
There is no point being listed well for a search phrase that nobody uses.
Make sure that you understand the difference between “broad match” and “exact match” i.e. “tennis shoes” in a broad match would show you the number of people searching for “tennis” and also the number of people searching for “shoes” whereas exact match would show you the number of people searching for “tennis shoes”.

2) Target search phrases
“Short Tail search phrases” v “Long Tail search phrases”
A vital area.
When you are considering purchasing for example, a TV, you may start by searching for “40 inch tv” then you may whittle it down to your favourite one or two brands i.e. “Samsung 40 inch tv” or “Panasonic 40 inch tv” then spend some more time studying each model and the benefits and suitability of each model and finally WHEN YOU ARE AT THE POINT OF PURCHASE you may search for the actual TV that you wish to buy i.e. “Samsung UE40EH5000 40-inch”. This makes so much more sense as you should get seen if you optimise and promote your site well at the point when the consumer actually wishes to buy the item.
3) Meta areas
A much discussed area of SEO right now but one that is still essential.
Choose short, targeted, different phrases for each meta title and meta description of every page and avoid duplication.
4) Content
Content is king now. Latest Google algorithm updates stress that it is all about content. If Google are timing the amount of time that visitors spend on your web page then it would make sense that in order to grab and keep someone’s attention you have to spend time making each page interesting to keep them on board. Make it intesting.
5) Text Length / Text to code ratio
Gone are the days when you could just have one short paragraph and optimise it. 300 words (minimum) is a good starting point to begin with.
6) Keyword Density
Try and use your chosen search phrase a few times but do not overdo it. Stuffing your page with target search phrases will probably hinder it not help.
7) Indexed Pages
Check Google using “site: www.yourdomainnamehere.co.uk” to check how many pages of your website have been indexed (found) by Google.
Ensure you have a good sitemap to show Google each page and page linking structure.
8) Speed
Try and make your pages even faster to load.
Consider using caching systems in general, possibly also use smushit (Yahoo image optimiser) for reducing your image file sizes.
9) Hosting
Yes you generally get what you pay for.

10) Social Media usage
Keep up to date and pick the most suitable social media platforms for your type of business i.e. if your business is very “picture heavy” i.e. you design things or make signs, or produce websites or graphics, consider image based systems like PINTEREST or INSTAGRAM as well as the usual culprits of Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus.
